Ever wonder what Meditation is all about?

I Remember hearing about meditation and wondering,

umm  so how do you do it?  what do you get out of it?

You get out of it what you put into it.

well benefits of meditation are

  • Lower blood pressure
  • Improved blood circulation
  • Lower heart rate
  • Less perspiration
  • Slower respiratory rate
  • Less anxiety
  • Lower blood cortisol levels
  • More feelings of well-being
  • Less stress
  • Deeper relaxation

there are a few types of meditation the two I will tell you about are Concentration and mindfulness

CONCENTRATION MEDITATION

Concentration meditation involves focusing on one single thing.  Like your breath or possibly repeating a single word or phrase/mantra or you can do like in the wii game ( which I actually like) and stare at a candle flame, listening to a singing bowl etc. on this form of ,meditation you simply focus on a single item and if you fall out just refocus.

MINDFULNESS MEDITATION

Mindfulness meditation is used to observe wandering thoughts which  can float  through the mind. The object is not to get engage  with the thoughts or to judge the thoughts,  but simply to be aware .

Simple ways to meditate

a. either sit or lie down and be comfortable

b. close your eyes ( sometimes will have a light therapy going so I keep my eyes open to watch the waves of the light

c.  try to control your breath ( such as count silently as you breath in and out for a count of 3 to 6)

D. you want to bring your attention to your breath and how your body moves when you inhale and exhale. pay attention to your body without controlling/counting your breaths;  if you should lose focus refocus on your breath again.

your first few times just practice this for 2 to 3 minutes and every time you meditate add on another minute if you would like.
